Otakon 2010, Day 1
Jul. 31st, 2010 10:38Sitting in Alex Leavitt's panel on noitaminA at the moment. I survived the construction gauntlet on I-95 and found the hotel without too many problems, though I wasn't early enough to get the FMA:B credential tag, sadly.
I spent a good chunk of time talking with Ed Chavez of Vertical, Inc. at its booth in the dealers' room--I thought I was going to get away without buying anything, but then I did my part to support literature in translation by buying the second two volumes of Terra E... in English from Ed. He did confirm that Vertical is going to release more books by Kyougoku Natsuhiko, yay! I read Summer of the Ubume last year and was impressed.
After dinner with Alex, Tom Langston and Ed Sizemore, we all headed to the 吉田兄弟 (Yoshida Brothers) concert. Three words: they are amazing. We also watched the "Anime Cult Classics" panel by Mike Knoll of ANN and Otaku News, which was anime produced by cults (Souka Gakkai, Dohn Yoga, Koufuku no Kagaku, and Aum Shinrikyou) and quite something, to say the least.
