Yeah, it's an interesting story with a lot of different components in a lot of different places. I was batting around other ideas for books on a similar topic that you could do with my advisor, and we also came up with coffee, which is also a global and local story in Japan, particularly the rapid change after the war, when by now Japan is leading the world's coffee culture in a lot of ways--they invited the siphon coffee in the process, and those $20K Clover machines you see everywhere in fancy places are Japanese, and if you go to Ritual or Blue Bottle all the coffee paraphernalia is made in Japan.
