Amen. I freaking love the UCD English department right now.
I feel like the completely spurious redefinition of "nonviolent protest" demonstrates just how common it has been for people in power to use weasel language to pretend we're all on the same side when we clearly aren't. (See also: racism.) It makes me sick, but I have some hope bc it seems like people are starting to *notice* so much more than they ever did before.
I love the UCs; Berkeley was my first experience of higher education in the US and it opened up the world to me. I'm applying to jobs at 5 UCs (Cal, UCI, UCLA, UCSB and UCR, in increasing order of how good a chance I think I have at the positions) and I would be so beyond thrilled to get any of them, to leave private education behind and fight for public in this state that has come to feel like my home.
